How to solve

Two points determine a unique line. Slope is rise over run; then solve for b using either point in y = mx + b.

Steps

  1. Compute m = (y₂ − y₁)/(x₂ − x₁).
  2. Plug one point into y = mx + b to find b.
  3. Write y = mx + b, or enter m,b if asked.

Example

A(0, 1) and B(2, 5)

  1. m = 4/2 = 2.
  2. b = 1.
  3. y = 2x + 1.

Answer: y=2x+1

How to type answers

  • Enter y=mx+b or m,b when fractions appear
