How to solve

An x-intercept is where the graph crosses the x-axis, so y = 0. A y-intercept is where it crosses the y-axis, so x = 0.

Steps

  1. Locate the requested axis.
  2. Find where the line crosses that axis.
  3. Read the nonzero coordinate at the crossing.

Example

A line crosses the x-axis at (3, 0) and the y-axis at (0, −2).

  1. At y = 0, x = 3.
  2. At x = 0, y = −2.

Answer: x-intercept 3; y-intercept −2
