How to solve

y = a(x − h)² + k puts the vertex at (h, k). The y-intercept is the value at x = 0.

Steps

  1. Read (h, k) from vertex form for the vertex.
  2. For the y-intercept, substitute x = 0.

Example

y = 2(x − 1)² + 3

  1. Vertex (1, 3).
  2. y(0) = 2(1)² + 3 = 5.

Answer: (1,3) or 5 depending on the prompt

How to type answers

  • Vertex as (h,k); y-intercept as an integer
