How to solve
The derivative of a sum is the sum of derivatives: apply the power rule to every term and drop constants.
Steps
- d/dx of axⁿ is n·a·xⁿ⁻¹.
- Differentiate each term separately.
- Constants vanish.
Example
d/dx of 2x³ − 5x² + 4x − 7
- 2x³ → 6x².
- −5x² → −10x; 4x → 4; −7 → 0.
Answer: 6x^2-10x+4
