How to solve

A mixed number hides an addition: a b/c means a + b/c. Convert the whole part into c-ths and combine.

Steps

  1. Multiply the whole number by the denominator.
  2. Add the numerator to that product.
  3. Keep the same denominator.

Example

Write 2 3/5 as an improper fraction.

  1. 2 × 5 = 10.
  2. 10 + 3 = 13, over the same denominator 5.

Answer: 13/5
