How to solve
Percent change compares the difference to the ORIGINAL value, then scales to 100.
Steps
- Compute the change: new − old (drop the sign; the prompt says increase or decrease).
- Divide the change by the original value.
- Multiply by 100 for the percent.
Example
A price rises from 40 to 50. Percent increase?
- Change: 10.
- 10 ÷ 40 = 0.25 → 25%.
Answer: 25
