How to solve

A unit rate answers “how much per one.” Dividing the measured quantity by the number of units collapses a ratio into a single comparable rate (miles per hour, cost per item, and so on).

Steps

  1. Identify the quantity being measured and the number of units.
  2. Divide quantity ÷ units to get the per-one rate.
  3. Simplify the fraction if the rate is not an integer.

Example

A car travels 150 miles in 3 hours. Find the unit rate in miles per hour.

  1. Divide distance by time: 150 ÷ 3.
  2. 150/3 = 50 miles per hour.

Answer: 50
