How to solve
A ratio compares two quantities. Like a fraction, it is simplest when the two parts share no common factor.
Steps
- Find the GCF of the two parts.
- Divide both parts by it.
- Write the result with a colon, like 3:4.
Example
Simplify the ratio 12:18.
- GCF(12, 18) = 6.
- 12 ÷ 6 = 2 and 18 ÷ 6 = 3.
Answer: 2:3
How to type answers
- Write ratios with a colon, like 2:3
